Together, we’re helping children learn to read—and reach their potential.

With wonderful readers like you donating and buying books at our Calgary book sale, we’re helping children become stronger, joyful readers.

Now, more than ever, it’s critical to ensure children have books at home and caring adults reading with them. Children aren’t born knowing how to read, and yet reading is the foundation of all learning. In fact, a child’s reading level by Grade 3 is the strongest predictor of a child’s future success.

That’s why Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown, which stewards the sale, and Kids Literacy Collective, distribute sale proceeds to organizations that bring children from birth to age 8:

· their very own books, including via Book Bank
· family supports to start early
· mentors to strengthen reading skills
· science of reading in the classroom
· advocacy for each child’s right to read

These efforts are helping to raise readers who start school with more words, more wellbeing and more chances of graduating high school and post-secondary education/training.
